The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has announced plans to celebrate Ashanti Kente Week from March 23 to March 31, 2026, as part of activities marking Ghana Month and the AshantiFest 2026.
In a statement issued on March 13 and signed by the Chief Director, Michael Owusu Amoako, the council said the initiative is aimed at promoting and celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage while encouraging pride in the globally recognised Kente cloth.
According to the council, Kente remains a strong symbol of identity, craftsmanship and tradition among the Ashanti people and Ghanaians as a whole.
“All government institutions, corporate organizations, and public service establishments within the Ashanti Region are kindly requested to communicate to their staff to respectfully incorporate a touch of Kente in their attire throughout the week. This may be done through full Kente cloth, Kente-inspired outfits, scarves, ribbons, ties, bow ties, pocket squares, lapel pins, brooches, headbands, hair accessories, belts, or other subtle Kente designs integrated into corporate wear,” the statement noted.
The council called on churches, mosques and other religious institutions to encourage their congregants to participate by adding a touch of Kente to their outfits during services within the week.
Institutions and religious bodies are further encouraged to climax their participation on Friday, March 27, Saturday, March 28, or Sunday, March 29, depending on their respective worship days.
The council added that, in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace, a grand climax event will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Kumasi Cultural Centre.
The event will feature cultural displays, a traditional food fair, and a music and jama festival, celebrating the Ashanti people’s culture, history, cuisine, and musical heritage.
“All institutions and citizens are encouraged to participate actively in this celebration as we collectively promote our cultural identity and support local artisans and industry,” the statement read.
