Kumasi shops for x’mas

SHOP OWNERS are making brisk business in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region capital, as the Christmas season approaches.

People from all walks of life have invaded the historic city, ostensibly, to shop ahead of the Yuletide season, which is drawing closer.

During a visit to Adum, the Central Business District (CBD) on Tuesday morning, there was massive vehicular and human traffic on the streets.

Some of the drivers bitterly complained that they have remained in traffic for so many hours, which was usually not the case.

“I have spent one hour in traffic in a journey, which ideally, would have taken me just 5 minutes to cover”, Yaw Baah, a driver, said.

Another commercial driver, Kwadwo Wiredu, said Adum roads have been filled with cars “so movement is almost impossible”.

Meanwhile, during a visit to the Kejetia and the Central Market, the situation was even worse as the place was filled with people.

There was massive human traffic in the market as people were seen in long queues, buying different items to mark the Yuletide.

The paper gathered that footwear and clothe dealers, especially, made more sales as people continued to patronise their items.

Reports from Asafo and Bantama markets also indicated that market women and shop owners made brisk business on Tuesday.
