Law School Probes SRC ‘Chop Chop’

The Ghana School of Law (GSL) has said it would take “immediate action” to investigate recent and continuous allegations of financial impropriety and mismanagement of funds of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the school “ for the necessary steps to be taken where required.”

The information was made known in a statement signed by the School’s Registrar and dated April 12, 2022. The statement did not mention the name of the signee.

It was in response to weeks of allegations in the media against the SRC  President, Wonder Victor Kutor who has been asked  by his colleague SRC Executive Members to step aside temporarily for an independent body to investigate the claims against him.

The claims against Mr. Wonder Victor Kutor ranges from conflict of interest where  he is accused  to have sold his personal faulty saloon car to the student body at an amount higher than the market price, to  other allegations that he was personally running a Mobile Money business for the SRC.

Other variations of the allegations said it was rather the girlfriend of Mr. Wonder Victor Kutor who was operating the Mobile Money business and passing  the profit to the President instead of the student body.

The SRC President, Wonder Victor Kutor who is currently outside the country on official duty for the school has however refuted all the allegations against him and said he is ready to avail himself to any constitutionally constituted investigative body.

Mr. Wonder Victor Kutor has however explained that per the SCR’s  constitution, a student leader is not obliged to resign or leave office simply because an allegation has been leveled against him.

He has therefore insisted that  he would never step aside but rather remain in office for the investigations to go on uninterrupted.

Explaining the supposed conflict of interest situation regarding the sale of his own second hand car to the student body, the SRC President admitted  he was a former director of the company that  won the bid for the car sale but he had since resigned and that the said company was being run by a friend of his.

Wonder Victor Kutor said it was open knowledge that he once upon a time had interest in the said company but it does not mean he influenced the bidding process in anyway.

Mr. Kutor, speaking from Chicago yesterday, said it was petty to allege that his girlfriend was running the SRC’s Mobile Money business for him and giving the profits to him when the truth or otherwise of such an allegation can be easily crosschecked from the telecommunications company which they have registered the business with.

He was emphatic that the allegations against him lacked merit and suggested they were sponsored by other factors and unseen hands.

Sounding rather outraged, Mr. Wonder Victor Kutor said when he returns to Ghana, he would open a can of worms that would reveal the persons in high positions who are fueling the allegations against him and what their motivation is.

MORE SOON.
