Let’s Report Fraudulent Tax Activities – NCCE

Mr Godwin Agbenyo, Keta Municipal Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) has charged citizens to report fraudulent tax activities and entities that invade tax for action to be taken on them.

He also urged them to register for the Tax Identification Number (TIN) so they could transact business with the state, register lands and other properties.

Mr Agbenyo who was addressing a public forum at Keta Central, to educate the public on their civic responsibilities towards the state, especially on tax compliance and environmental governance, said, “it is about time to think about what we can do for our country and not only the other way round”.

The forum was on the theme” Our taxes, Our future”, which the NCCE is working on in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority towards widening the tax net.

Mr Agbenyo said Government could only generate more revenue if all citizens faithfully declared their incomes and paid the appropriate taxes on them, adding that “taxes, no matter how small contribute to national development.”

He asked the citizenry to demand accountability from public officers, chiefs, Assembly members, Unit committees, Zonal Councils and the Assemblies.

Mr Agbenyo also urged them to take environmental issues seriously and avoid open defecation, building without permits and indiscriminate felling of trees for firewood.
