Lifeline For Ahafo University …After Mega Fund Raising Event

A grand fund raising ceremony has been held to raise the needed money to complete the ongoing University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) satellite campus at Kenyase No2 in the Ahafo Region.

The university is the brainchild of the traditional authorities in the area to help bring tertiary education to the doorstep of the people.

Scores of people, including well-to-do personalities in society and representatives of public and private organizations that graced the occasion, willingly donated to help complete the project.

It is not clear how much was raised, in terms of cash and pledges, but observers believe it could run into millions of cedis.

The Nkosuohene of Kenyase No2 Traditional Council, Nana Kweku Baah, known in private life as ‘Francis Donkor-Baah, lauded the paramount chief for coming out with the university campus idea.

He said education is the best thing that parents and guardians can bequeath to their children, and entreated the citizenry to invest in their children’s education.

The Nkosuohene commended Newmont Goldcorp Ahafo Mine for establishing the ‘Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation’ (Nadef) to spearhead developmental projects in the community.

For his part, the Akwamuhene, who represented the paramount chief of the area, Nana Ampongsah Boadu, saluted the government for its numerous efforts to expedite the development of the state and urged government to sustain its good works.

The UENR representative, Dr. Otoo, also lauded the traditional leaders for coming out with the university campus idea and assured of his support to make the project a reality.
