Lil Win Angry Over Lumba’s Vigil Date Clash

Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has expressed disappointment in the government and the Creative Arts Agency (CAA) for scheduling a national candlelight vigil for the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba on the same day as the premiere of his new film.

Speaking in a recent interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Lil Win said the date conflict could negatively affect the premiere of Ibrahim Traoré, a movie based on the life of Burkina Faso’s revolutionary leader. The film is scheduled to premiere on August 2, 2025, in both Accra and Kumasi.

“The 2nd of August will be historic. It hurts me that the authorities and the Creative Arts Agency have scheduled the late Daddy Lumba’s candlelight vigil on the same day as my premiere. I’ve poured my heart, soul, and over a million dollars into this project.

It took years of planning, and now the date clashes with a major national event. Couldn’t there have been better coordination from the authorities?” he asked.

Lil Win also questioned why the family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known as Daddy Lumba, chose that particular date for the vigil. He hinted at a possible attempt to sabotage his work, saying, “Why did Daddy Lumba’s family choose the same date as my premiere? I’ve invested everything into this. Is it an attempt to sabotage my work?”

The Kumawood star, known for speaking his mind, claimed that he continues to face unnecessary hate within the industry and from the public.

“I know many Ghanaians show me fake love. I’m hated for no reason. Last year, people wished for my failure, and it happened. Now again this year? Herh, Ghana!”

Visibly emotional, Lil Win went on to say this might be his final movie.

While some fans on social media have shown support for Lil Win, others believe his reaction is misplaced. They say the country is in mourning, and national tributes like Daddy Lumba’s vigil should not be turned into personal issues.
