Liverpool Should Have Signed Kudus

The British Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, Keith McMahon, has said he would have preferred Liverpool to sign Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus instead of German playmaker Florian Wirtz during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool chose to bring in Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen before the start of the 2025/26 season, even though they had shown interest in Kudus.

However, the 22-year-old German has struggled to make an impact at Anfield, failing to score in any of his 11 appearances under manager Arne Slot. His poor form has led to growing criticism from some Liverpool fans.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, McMahon, a passionate Liverpool supporter, said Kudus would have been the better choice.

“[Mohammed] Kudus. The man is amazing. I don’t know why we didn’t buy him from West Ham. I would have bought him before Wirtz,” McMahon stated.

Kudus joined Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham United in the same transfer window and has started strongly, scoring once and providing four assists in eight Premier League games.

Many Liverpool fans now share McMahon’s opinion, wondering how different things could have been if the Reds had gone for Kudus instead of Wirtz, given the Ghanaian’s impressive form and growing influence at Tottenham.
