Majority Leader denies plot to impose Bawumia on NPP

The Majority Leader and the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has denied the content of a leaked audio clip, which purportedly captures a voice in a plot to impose Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He dismissed the voice on the clip, which is said to have first been aired on Kumasi-based Sompa FM on Friday, September 8, as not his.

“I respond as follows that the audio clip is a rather infantile attempt to not only bring my reputation into disrepute but sow seeds of discord in the NPP,” the Majority Leader stated in a release on Saturday.

The Suame Member of Parliament (MP) added that he has not been involved in any plot or orchestration to impose Dr Bawumia on the NPP.

He was accused together with the General Secretary of the ruling party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and John Boadu, who is the immediate past General Secretary, as well as the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Accordingly, I entreat the President, HE President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, HE Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the former General Secretary, John Boadu, and all NPP faithfuls to treat the said audio clip and its content with the contempt that it deserves and consign it to the garbage can that it belongs.”

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has also demanded an apology and a retraction from Sompa FM within 48 hours, “failing which I reserve the right to advise myself”.
