Man Buries 80-Year-Old Wife In Their Bedroom

A Forty-four-year-old Kwaku Charles is now in police custody for allegedly burying his 80-year-old Nigerian wife, Sofo Maame Esther Bolu, right in their bedroom in Twifo Nuamakrom at Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.

The story first caught public attention on January 30, 2026, when a video of the unusual graveyard went viral on social media. It was discovered that the body was that of a well-known spiritual healer, who had been entombed inside her own home by her husband.

According to reports, Charles, has appeared before the Assin Fosu District Court, presided over by Judge Abdul Majid Iliasu, and has been formally remanded for questioning. He faces charges of hindrance of an inquest, a legal term meaning he allegedly interfered with the proper investigation into his wife’s death. He is expected to reappear in court on February 19, 2026.

According to the prosecution, Charles told investigators that his wife had been ill for some time, died peacefully in her sleep about three weeks

Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, who is leading the prosecution, stated that Charles had admitted to the burial during police questioning.

She told the court that the accused stated he dug a grave inside the bedroom, lined it with black polythene, dressed his wife in her favorite white gown and hat, and placed her Bible on her chest. He even covered the body with ‘Jack in the bush’ locally known as Acheampong weeds before laying wooden slabs, tarpaulin, and sand on top.

The inspector also revealed that Charles did not report the death to the police or community elders. He explained that her family had abandoned her before her passing and that he did not have the money to transport her body back to Nigeria, where she was originally from.

Charles also claimed he feared local elders would insist on repatriation, but added that his wife had once requested to be buried on her own land in Ghana.

As part of the investigation, the court has granted the police permission to exhume the body and conduct a full pathological examination to determine the exact cause of death.

The late Bolu was no stranger to the spiritual world. Sources say, she operated the Miracle Prayer Centre, initially in Kasoa, with her Nigerian husband. Their marriage reportedly ended after he took another wife, prompting Bolu to move to Twifo Nuamakrom and open another branch of her church.

Fate, it seems, had a sense of irony: Charles, who had come to her church seeking healing about 12 years ago, later married her after reportedly recovering from his illness. The couple had been together for 11 years.

Interestingly, Charles informed Bolu’s former husband about her passing and the secret burial. The former husband, understandably shocked, reported the matter to the police, which led to Charles’ arrest.
