Man Dies on Electric Pole

THE OBOGU Township in the Asante Akim South District in the Ashanti region was thrown into a state of mourning on Saturday afternoon when an apprentice-electrician was electrocuted on an electricity pole he had climbed.

The apprentice electrician is reported to have climbed the pole in an attempt to illegally tap power from the national grid for a funeral ceremony in the community.

But things did not go on as planned, as he accidentally touched the wrong wire, which electrocuted him.

Eye witnesses told the paper that there was low current in the community and so a funeral celebration of a deceased woman was interrupted.

They said the young apprentice was engaged to climb the pole and connect the funeral venue to the national grid so that a live band could perform.

Sadly, the young man accidentally touched wrong wires, which electrocuted him right in the presence of several mourners.

The people said they initially didn’t know there was a problem until they saw his body dangling on the wires.

Concerned residents were seen rushing to the scene, amidst wailing, after news about the tragedy spread in town.

The sources told the paper the matter was reported to the police, who in turn called on officials of the power supply company to help remove the dead body from the pole.
