Man Receives Beatings For Campaigning Against The Eating Of Dog And Cat Meat

The Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS) has temporarily paused its nationwide tour against the eating of dogs and cats after a violent attack on its Executive Director, Eric Jerry Aidoo, in the Northern Region.

Mr Aidoo, popularly called Chairman Jerry, was attacked while speaking to communities as part of the campaign tour across the country to protect animals.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, signed by Eric Jerry Aidoo, the ICS said the attack was serious and targeted, and that the safety of its team is now a top priority.

“The Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS) officially announces the temporary suspension of our nationwide sensitisation tour aimed at ending cruelty toward dogs and cats.

This difficult decision follows a distressing incident in which our Executive Director, Mr. Eric Jerry Aidoo (popularly known as Chairman Jerry) was nearly lynched while carrying out his duties.

While we are relieved that Chairman Jerry is safe, the severity of this targeted violence necessitates a pause to ensure the safety of our team and to reassess our security protocols”, the organisation said.

Despite the attack, the ICS stressed that the campaign is not cancelled and that the institute remains committed to protecting dogs and cats and teaching people to treat them with care.

“We want to state clearly that the tour is not cancelled. We have only put our activities on hold. We will return to the road very soon to continue fighting for our innocent dogs and cats that serve as loyal family members and vital security for households across the country,” Mr Aidoo said.

He added that pets are not just companions but also help with household security.

The ICS plans to resume the tour soon, with events scheduled in the Volta, Northern, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions. The organisation is calling on the public to help by volunteering, taking part in educational activities, and supporting efforts to change how communities treat pets.

“Our goal is to educate the public and engage with communities to shift the perspective on the consumption and treatment of this innocent pet. People interested in joining the campaign are encouraged to visit the ICS office or contact its official channels for more information”, the ICS said.
