Man Seeks Justice Over Pokuase Land Litigation

Bismarck Otchere Kwaku Mfarfo the family head of the Aduana Ablade Family of Adusa has questioned the manner in which the police handled a case in which illegal persons who encroached on their family land at Pokase are walking in the streets as free-men.

According to him, the matter in which his life was threatened with a gun and later arrested arbitrarily has been poorly dealt with by the police.

Mr. Mfarfo is therefore demanding justice from the police in the case which he believes his right have been bitterly denied.

Narrating the incident, he said he visited the family land one fateful day upon receiving a call from one of his grandchildren who was on the land that some strangers had visited the site again.

Upon reaching there, he questioned the strange persons of their mission on the land following which one of them began to insult him, resulting in a heated exchange between his grandchild and the other party.

He said later in the same day, he received a call from the Pokuase District Police inviting him for questioning after a complaint had been lodged by the strange persons who brought the police to arrest him, explaining that he was not at the site when the police arrived.

Sergeant Caesar Sabutu of Pokuase District Police confirming the incident, in an interview, said upon receiving complaints of causing harm by Mr. Mfarfo and his people, they visited the scene but could not find the culprit so they phoned Mr. Mfarfo to report at the office.

He said one WOI Opare, old soldier, upon hearing of the presence of Mr. Mfarfo decided to cause his arrest as payback to Mr. Mfarfo who had also caused his arrest in time past.

He said the old soldier stormed the base of Mr. Mfarfo and insisted he come out because he would be arrested for causing harm to his nephew.

According to the police officer, the raging impasse is on the basis of a longstanding chieftaincy dispute between Mr. Mfarfo and his people and the chief of Adusa and his subject’s part of which resulted in the heated exchanges between Mr. Mfarfo’s grandchild, Kojo Otchere and one Attah from the other party.

He said this apparently formed the basis for the violent confrontation.
