Manhyia goes gay as Otumfuo touches down

THERE WAS merrymaking in the Manhyia Palace, the official seat of the Asante Kingdom on Thursday evening when the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, stepped foot at the place.

The highly respected and influential monarch had been out of the country for some days as he had embarked on a separate state-visits to the Republic of Suriname and Barbados.

His return back to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital on Thursday, was as usual, met with a rousing reception, which started at the plush-looking Prempeh 1st International Airport.

Scores of prominent Asante chiefs and queenmothers who owe allegiance to the revered Golden Stool, which is the soul of Asanteman, had converged at the airport to welcome their overlord.

Interestingly, the heavens had opened up as it rained on Thursday evening prior to Otumfuo’s arrival, but the rains could not deter the determined chiefs as they stood on the tarmac, soaked with rain water.

The charted private jet, which the Asantehene traveled on, touched at the Prempeh 1st airport at exactly 7pm and before Otumfuo could step out, there were shouts of joy at the airport.

The Asantehene, who looked impressed by the love being shown to him by his chiefs and subjects, was seen waving back to the crowd as he exchanged pleasantries with some selected chiefs.

Also at the airport to welcome the king back home included members of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), top officials at the Manhyia Palace and people from all walks of life.

A sizable crowd of elated people also lined up on the streets from the Prempeh Ist airport, all the way to the Manhyia Palace, as they gave their spiritual leader a rousing welcome to the Garden City.

The fanfare then reached its climax at the Manhyia Palace, where a group of Asante women, queenmothers, and others, also greeted the king back home with singing and dancing.
