Ghanaian highlife musician Akwaboah Jr has revealed that he was emotionally hurt by social media trolls who mocked his appearance in a photo taken after a stressful performance earlier this year.
Speaking on Okay FM on June 30, 2025, the “I Do Love You” hitmaker shared his experience in the interview.
Akwaboah explained that the picture, which went viral, was taken by his wife after he had returned from a late-night show in Kwahu and attended church without rest.
He explained that the trolling started after his wife posted a picture of him on social media. At the time, he had just returned from a tiring performance at Kwahu.
“I had a show at Kwahu. I left Accra around 8:30 pm, got there at midnight, performed, met some fans, and returned to Accra. I arrived at 7 am and still went to church. So, I didn’t sleep throughout that night.
And I was so tired. After church, my wife insisted on taking a picture and decided to share on social media. Then I went to sleep. Only to wake up and some people had zoomed into my tired face and were saying things on social media about me and my marriage,” Akwaboah recalled.
He added that after church, his wife asked to take a photo of him. She later posted it online while he rested. When he woke up, he was shocked to see people making fun of his tired face.
Despite the harsh reactions, Akwaboah said he and his wife were not moved by the insults. “People mocked my looks, claimed marriage aged me, and even dragged my wife. But their trolling doesn’t pay my bills,” he said.
He expressed disappointment about how Ghanaians treat public figures.
“I don’t know why we have reduced the industry to this. Because it is only in Ghana that we do this. But there is a wise saying that you are what you say. So, if you say bad things about people, the same will happen to you,” he added.
