Maxwell Woledzi Named Player of the Year

Ghana defender Maxwell Woledzi has been named Player of the Year at Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK after an outstanding season.

The 24-year-old centre-back has enjoyed one of the best years of his career, making 37 appearances in all competitions.

His strong performances helped Fredrikstad finish sixth in the Norwegian league with one match left to play. Woledzi’s hard work and consistency also earned him a place in the Eliteserien Team of the Year.

Woledzi joined Fredrikstad in 2023, and his contract runs until 2026. Since arriving, he has grown into one of the club’s most important players. His leadership, calm defending, and ability to read the game have made him a standout figure in the Norwegian top flight.

His impressive season was highlighted by Fredrikstad’s historic run, which included winning their first Norway Cup title in 18 years. Woledzi’s dominance in the air and confidence at the back were key factors in the club’s success.

Reports suggest that Major League Soccer side Nashville SC, as well as several European clubs, are interested in signing him. Nashville are reported to have submitted a bid, and Fredrikstad are expected to review the offer soon as more teams continue to monitor his progress. Woledzi’s market value is currently estimated at €2.2 million.

Despite the growing interest, the defender remains focused on his next task. He is preparing for Fredrikstad’s final league game of the season against Bodo/Glimt on Sunday, November 30.

Woledzi’s rise has been steady and impressive. Before joining Fredrikstad, he played for FC Nordsjaelland and Vitória Guimarães B, experiences that helped shape his development into a reliable and modern defender.

His performances this season have not only earned him club honours but also increased attention from international scouts.

His recognition as Player of the Year confirms his impact both on and off the pitch, marking him as one of Ghana’s promising talents in European football.
