Mickey Charles: 2023 GFA elections was illegal

Former President of Techiman City Football Club, Charles Ntim, popularly known as Mickey Charles has brandished the recently held 2023 Ghana Football Association (GFA) Elections as an illegality.

Mickey Charles said this in an interview with Citi Sports as he indicated that, the court injunction stopped the GFA from holding the elections in Tamale.

Incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku run unopposed and ended up getting 117 of 120 votes to secure another four year term as GFA President. Members of the GFA Executive Council were also elected.

After participating in a demonstration against the GFA in the lead up to the elections, Mickey Charles is adamant the election process was illegal.

“Well the process was illegal. What happened in Tamale was an illegality because per our statutes, if the GFA Executive Council wanted a mandate, they should have asked congress to give them a mandate when they had the Ordinary Congress on the 10th of July in Kumasi.”

He added, “As far as the statute is concerned, there is nothing like an Elective Congress so what happened in Tamale was null and void.”

Hearing of the court injunction is to be heard on Thursday, October 12.
