Minister Commissions New Market at Agona Nsaba

Mr Kwamena Duncan, the Central Regional Minister has inaugurated a GHc1.5 million market complex and a lorry park at Agona Nsaba in the Agona East District.

The inauguration of the projects is expected to help increase revenue mobilisation of the Assembly to develop other infrastructure in the area.

The projects were financed by the Central Regional Development Commission (CEDECOM), the District Development Fund (DDF) and the Agona East District Assembly’s Common Fund.

Addressing a gathering attended by the Omanhene of Nsaba Traditional Area, Osabarimba Bishop Boappiah Afriyie II, the Regional Minister said the District Assembly mobilised its main sources of income from markets, lorry parks, public toilets and others.

He therefore urged traders and hawkers to avoid trading outside the market, and rather use the facility for its purpose, and help the Assembly in its revenue collection.

Mr Duncan also cautioned drivers plying the Akim Oda-Agona Swedru route to use the new lorry park and desist from loading outside the park to avert loss of revenue to the Assembly.

He advised the Agona East District Assembly to provide chippings at the lorry park too make it attractive.

Mr Spencer Taylor, the Central Regional Director of CEDECOM, said the Commission had funded Community based health planning services (CHPS) compounds, markets, Police posts and hospitals in the region to improve the lot of the people.

Mr Dennis Armah-Frimpong, the Agona East District Chief Executive (DCE), disclosed that the previous administration of the Assembly paid over GHc900, 000 into the project to support the CEDECOM to facilitate its completion.

He said the assembly has put in place numerous measures to increase revenue as it could not depend on the Common Fund and GETFUND for its major infrastructural development.

The DCE assured the Regional Minister that the assembly was poised to develop many areas such as tourism sites, markets, modern places of convenience and others as part of efforts to maximise revenue.
