The Ministry of Health, through its Pharmacy Directorate, is rolling out a new national framework to guide the prioritisation of limited health resources, with a strong emphasis on equity and fairness.
Speaking to Citi News on Friday, December 20, the Acting Director of Pharmacy, Saviour Yevutsey, said the framework—developed with support from the Norwegian government—introduces clear, community-informed criteria for selecting health interventions.
He explained that the approach is designed to ensure transparency in decision-making and prevent disparities in access to essential healthcare services across the country.
According to Mr Yevutsey, the framework recognises the reality of constrained funding within the health sector and seeks to ensure that available resources are allocated in a way that delivers the greatest benefit.
“We are implementing a project with the Norwegian government focused on setting priorities. There are several health interventions available, but funding remains a challenge, making prioritisation necessary. When interventions are proposed, they will be assessed using selected criteria within the various health communities,” he said.
He added that the framework will help policymakers make informed, evidence-based decisions while ensuring that no Ghanaian is disadvantaged due to geography or limited resources.
