My Lawyer Is Fed Up! J.B ‘Killer’ Tells Court

The first accused person in the murder trial of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region says his lawyer is fed up.

According to Daniel Asiedu, 19, aka Sexy Don Don, his lawyer Augustines Obour has told him he is fed up, a reason why he requested for International Criminal Court (ICC) lawyers.

Sexy Don Don who is also a phone dealer claims his lawyer said people are pulling strings and he is struggling.

Making his second appearance at the High Court presided over by Justice George Buadi yesterday, Hilda Craig, a Senior State Attorney noted that Sexy Don Don has been saying this since the District Court that he doesn’t trust Ghanaian lawyers and wants ICC lawyers.

She stated that the accused was given a lawyer from the Legal Aid and he declined the services of the lawyer but the second accused-Vincent Bosso aka Junior Agogo, a phone repairer accepted the services of the lawyer.

Justice Buadi for this reason wondered if the plea of the accused could be taken now that he doesn’t have lawyers.

On that Ms. Craig, argued that the case is about murder and that it is a serious charge and will be proper that the accused persons get lawyers before their pleas are taken.

Junior Agogo for his part said he knows one Muniru to be his layer but does not know why he was not in court as at the time the case was called insisting that he saw him earlier but cannot be sure he (Muniru) was aware the case was transferred to another court.

Ms Craig urged the court to make an order for the Prison Officers to transport the accused persons to court all the time for the hearing as it is becoming difficult for the police to do so.

Earlier, the Senior State Prosecutor had informed the court that the case before it is a fresh case and that she is before it for directions.

She said the prosecution has the charge sheet and the bill of indictment which would be tendered during the trial.

Justice Buadi while adjourning hearing until April 1 stated he came to court to meet the but was yet to see the documents the A-G said it had filed.

He said the case is a trial by indictment and there was the need for accused persons to get lawyers.

Justice Buadi stated that while Junior Agogo accepts Muniru Kasim as his counsel, Sexy Don Don seems disinterested in the said lawyer.

Prison Officers at Nsawam have however, been ordered to bring the accused persons to court for every court siting.

Meanwhile, it is expected that a jury would be empaneled on the next court day for their pleas to be taken.

Sexy Don Don and Junior Agogo were committed for trial at the high court on February 6 this year after several months of committal hearings at the District Court.

The duo are being tried over the murder of the legislator fondly called JB.

The accused persons were earlier discharged after the Attorney General and Minister for Justice had earlier entered Nolle Prosequi (NP) to drop previous charges against the accused persons in respect of the case which was at the stage of empaneling a seven-member jury for the trial at the high court.
