My Opponent Was Scared – Wontumi

BERNARD ANTWI Boasiako, aka ‘Wontumi’, has stated that Asare Bediako, his only opponent in the just held Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairmanship race, bowed out because he foresaw a looming embarrassing defeat.

According to him, he (Wontumi), was expecting a 100 percent victory in the contest because he was the obvious choice for the delegates, stressing that Bediako foresaw it and tactically withdrew.

Bediako, who had served as Chairman for Asokwa Constituency for 24 years, surprisingly, withdrew from the chairmanship competition just a few days to the Ejura elections last Saturday. His action paved way for Wontumi to go solo.

Bragging that his opponent opted out in his own interest, he said: “I would have beaten Asare Bediako convincingly had he not chickened out of the race at the last minute”. The delegates assured me that they would vote 100 percent for to retain me”, he said on Nhyira FM.

According to Wontumi; “The intense pressure from the delegates forced Asare Bediako, who realized that there was no way that he would have been elected as the party’s chairman, to chicken out at the eleventh-hour.

He disclosed he had visited all the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region on four separate occasions and that the response from the kingmakers (the delegates), clearly indicated that he (Wontumi) was cruising to a historic political victory.
