NADMO records 48 disaster cases in Bono East in 2025

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) recorded a total of 48 disaster incidents in the Bono East Region in 2025, most of which occurred between the second and third quarters of the year.

The incidents included rainstorms, windstorms, bushfires, domestic fires, and conflict-related cases. According to NADMO, no disasters were recorded in the first and fourth quarters of 2025. However, two fire-related casualties were reported in the first week of 2026.

The Bono East Regional Director of NADMO, Akwesi Lampo, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Techiman.

He said the disasters led to the destruction of three farms and a school at Yeji in the Pru East District, while two houses were razed at Dagomba Line in the Techiman Metropolis.

Mr Lampo explained that NADMO has stepped up preventive measures through the training and deployment of fire volunteer groups, as well as sustained public education campaigns on radio and in communities.

He added that the organisation is also collaborating with chiefs and opinion leaders to enforce environmental protection bylaws.

He noted that districts such as Atebubu-Amantin, Pru East and West, and Kintampo North and South continue to record high cases of bushfires, and urged residents to take proactive steps to protect lives and property.

The Regional Director further revealed that relief items received by the organisation remain inadequate to meet the increasing needs of affected persons, and appealed for additional support.

He cautioned farmers against cooking on their farms and advised them to seek approval and assistance from fire volunteers before carrying out any burning activities. Mr Lampo also warned Fulani herdsmen to desist from burning bushes to regenerate pasture, describing the practice as dangerous and environmentally harmful.
