NADMO to Raze All Dilapidated Buildings

The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, has disclosed that his office intends to pull down all buildings that pose a threat to public safety.

He said NADMO will move across the country and every building in a dilapidated state will be pulled down to prevent any disaster.

He made this known when he supervised the demolition of four Kaizer flats at Tema community 4 on Thursday, 1 February 2018.

Mr Agyemang-Prempeh told Class News that: “Let me take this opportunity to inform all Ghanaians that be it [a] private house or an organisational house or government house, per the new law of NADMO, we are not going to sit down as a country for buildings to be collapsing and killing people like what happened at Melcom and others.

“We are going to go all out and if we realise a building can cause disaster, we are going to demolish it. We’ll be going to Weija where people are building on top of the hills. We have just come from Sierra Leone with some experience and the same thing happened in Sierra Leone and in a day, over 490 people were buried.

“Ghana will not sit down to experience that. God is on our side but [we] as human beings must also move, so, we are going out and all over the country. Even if it is a ministry and we realise it is a disaster-prone building, we will make sure we pull it down. We want Ghanaians to support NADMO so that together, we make sure Ghana becomes a disaster free country.”
