Popular musician Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, has been acquitted by a Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State, of any involvement in the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
According to Channels TV, Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, after reviewing legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), ruled that Naira Marley had no case to answer.
The court also discharged music promoter Samson Balogun, popularly known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, also called Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
However, the DPP has recommended prosecution for auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe and the late singer’s friend, Ayobami Sadiq. They are to face charges of reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, at a magistrate court.
Meanwhile, Naira Marley’s legal team has raised concerns over statements made by actress Iyabo Ojo in September. In a letter dated December 12, 2023, his lawyer claimed that Ojo’s remarks were malicious and had severely damaged the singer’s reputation.
The legal team also alleged that The Real Housewives of Lagos star publicly suggested that Naira Marley was responsible for Mohbad’s death, misleading the public into believing he played a role in the tragedy.
Notably, a Yaba Magistrate Court had earlier granted bail to Naira Marley and Sam Larry on November 6, 2023.
