Nana Addo Declares Victory Over Economic Challenges

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered a resolute message during the 67th Independence address in Koforidua, Eastern Region, declaring Ghana’s successful navigation through challenging economic times.

Highlighting the nation’s resilience, he expressed confidence in a brighter future ahead despite acknowledging past economic hardships.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of upholding and transmitting cherished national values to future generations.

“If we are to take pride in being Ghanaian, there should be a consensus on the values we hold dear, and we should transmit them to every generation,” he emphasized. Also His Excellency underscored the need for Ghanaians to unite around these values to foster a strong sense of national pride.

Reflecting on the economic difficulties faced by the country, the President acknowledged the challenges but assured citizens that Ghana has overcome the worst and should now focus on better days ahead.

While recognizing the vital role of free speech in a democratic society, President Akufo-Addo also cautioned against its misuse. He noted that while free speech is essential, it must be exercised responsibly to prevent the spread of false information and potential chaos, especially in the lead-up to elections.

Ahead of the December elections, the President stressed the importance of learning from both successes and challenges. He urged for greater tolerance of differing opinions, emphasizing the need for a peaceful electoral process.

“We still have a lot more to learn especially when it comes to the tolerance of opposing views. But we also know that we dare not relapse, as there are many examples of countries that have disintegrated into chaos as a result of disputed elections

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the risks associated with the manipulation of technology in disseminating false information, calling for vigilance to ensure the integrity of public opinion.

Reflecting on the transformative role of technology, the President acknowledged its dual nature as both a valuable tool and a potential challenge to democracy. He highlighted the importance of a robust media environment and free speech as indicators of a functioning democracy.

While expressing satisfaction with Ghana’s progress in these areas, he also recognized the need for continued improvement in elevating the quality of public discourse.
