Nana storms EC with forms …says he would floor Mahama in clean elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo has set the tone for a fierce political battle insisting he would thrash the National Democratic Congress’ John Dramani Mahama in another clean general election in December.

He stated that a tainted election will not be in the interest of his administration.

In what appears to be a direct response to recent comments by Mr. Mahama, President Akufo-Addo intimated that he looks forward to a fair contest.

“I am not interested in any crooked results. I don’t want to be President elected by deceit. I look forward to a contest that will be fairly conducted” he said.

Reject Results

The NDC’s John Mahama even before the first ballot is cast for the December polls last month gave the strongest indication that he would not accept the results of any flawed election.

John Mahama comes face to face with Nana Addo again after suffering a humiliating defeat in the 2016 polls when he was the president of the country.

The NDC’s flagbearer secured 4, 771, 1 88 of valid votes cast representing 44.53% losing the Presidency to the NPP’s Nana Akufo- Addo who secured 5, 755, 7 58 representing 53.72%.

However, speaking to the press on the integrity of the just complied provisional voters’ register, the former president insisted on looking forward to free, fair and flawless elections, hence the party would not look on neither would it ignore its civil responsibilities.

“We won’t allow the EC whether by ill intents or a sheer incompetence till you serve the people’s mandate in the 7th December election”.

Clean Polls

But Nana Addo, speaking with EC officials when filing his nomination forms at the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the December polls yesterday allayed the fears of Mr. Mahama indicating that he (Nana Addo) is anticipating nothing short of a transparent poll.

“So that if indeed by the grace of the Almighty, I am again the choice of the Ghanaian people, it will be one that was freely and openly demonstrated,” he emphasized.

While applauding the systems instituted by the Commission so far, the NPP flagbearer expressed confidence in the outfit to deliver a clean process devoid of irregularities.

“You are the referees of the contest. The election is supposed to be decided by the people of Ghana. We are hoping that the rules that will be put in place will enable the Ghanaian people to manifest their will on December 7, and choose the next government of the fourth Republic.”

The flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is seeking a second term to man the affairs of the country.

Following the presentation of the relevant documents to facilitate his candidature in the December polls, he urged the EC to safeguard the integrity of the process.

Vetting

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa indicated that her outfit has instituted two committees to vet the forms presented by the flagbearer.

According to her, these teams namely; the Technical Committee and I.T. Committee are tasked to peruse the documents presented by the President following which the Commission will validate the candidature of the flagbearer.

This is to ensure that President Akufo-Addo is in good standing with regards to age, tax requirement among other developments necessary in facilitating the process.
