THE 2024 VICE Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has urged government to take keen interest in the welfare of nurses in the country.
According to him, nurses and health professionals in general, play important roles in the transformational processes of the country therefore they should be well taken care of to improve their lives.
Dr. Prempeh, who is a former Education Minister, also entreated government to properly take care of teachers in the country, pointing out that they (teachers) also play key roles in nation building.
Affectionately called ‘Napo’, he made the call when he presented different types of medical equipments and children playing items and books to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Children’s Ward.
The items he presented to the hospital included
Sunction Machine, Axillary Thermometer, Drug Crusher Bowl (Mortar and Pestle), Instruments (Galipot, Kidney Dish) and Strecture.
The remaining medical items presented by him were Oxygen Cylinders, Cardiac Monitor, Pediatric bp Monitor, Glucometer, Pulse Oximeters, Drip Stands, Nebulizer and Perfuser (Single and Double).
Napo, who is a former Energy Minister, also presented playroom items such as Kids Tablets, Colourful Reading Books, Legos, Building Blocks and others to the KATH Children’s Ward.
Significantly, Dr. Prempeh, an astute medical doctor, who once worked at KATH, made the donation to the B3, B4, B5 and C5 wards of KATH on Sunday as part of his 58th birthday celebrations, which fell on May 23, 2026.
Addressing journalists, he said as a Christian “the Holy Bible teaches him to always support the needy and poor in society”, assuring that he will continue his kind gesture so far he is in the position to do so.
Napo disclosed that for over 20 years now, he has been donating to orphanages in Kumasi to help boost the lives of the inmates, adding that he has decided to support KATH Children’s Ward this time around.
According to him, his kind gesture would not be a nine-day wonder, indicating his readiness and determination to always offer a helping hand to the needy and poor in the country.
