“NAPO IS A GIFT TO GHANA” …says Mampong Akropong Traditional Council

THE MAMPONG Akropong Traditional Council, in the Eastern Region, has described Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, as a “Gift to Ghana”.

According to the Council, Napo’s extraordinary works in both the Education and Energy Ministries in recent times, beats human imagination and understanding.

The aforementioned were boldly captured in a citation that the Mampong Akropong Traditional Council presented Napo, who is the Energy Minister, on Saturday.

The Council, in the citation, stated that whatever Napo touches suddenly turns into gold, pointing at the numerous successes Napo had chalked in public life.

For instance, they said for Napo to work and implement the famous free Senior High School (SHS) programme in just seven months time in office, is a miracle.

They therefore stated that Napo should be honoured and motivated so they he would get the energy to continue to deliver for the the state for the citizenry to enjoy.

The Mampong Akroponghebe, Osabarima Kwame Ottu Darty III, in his remarks, also said the free SHS policy, which Napo implemented, has saved the state.

According to him, with the free SHS policy in place now, the sad situation whereby students got dropped out of school due to poverty, is now a thing of the past.

Osabarima Kwame Ottu Darty III said Napo has done a yeoman’s job for the state since he entered public office so it was important that his Council honoured him.

He urged Napo to continue working hard and sacrificing for his motherland Ghana and its people, stressing that he ‘Napo’ would be blessed eventually for his efforts.

Napo Shows Appreciation

Napo expressed his joy and appreciation to the chiefs and people of Mampong Akropong Traditional Council for recognizing his works and honouring him.

He said he could not be isolated for credit over the free SHS policy, saying that the greatest glory should go to President Akufo-Addo, for coming out with the policy.

Napo also showered tons of praises on the entire staff of the Education Ministry, who stood firmly behind him for the positive programme to eventually become a reality.

The Energy Minister, who is also the MP for Manhyia South, in the Ashanti Region, emphatically stated that the “free SHS policy” has come to stay.

According to him, the country could only be properly developed when the youth are well educated, stressing that the free SHS policy should be protected.

Banishes Dumsor

Napo, who is the current Energy Minister, pointed out that power cuts also known as ‘Dumsor’ adversely affected businesses in the country some years past.

He stated that his administration at the Energy Ministry would do their utmost best to banish Dumsor from the country so that businesses would flourish.

According to him, the upgrading of power lines across the country and other projects in his ministry, were intended to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state.

Ohum Odwira Festival

Significantly, the occasion was the 2021 edition of the Ohum Odwira Festival, held at Mampong Akropong on Saturday. Other people were also honoured.

Sammi Awuku, the Director General, National Lottery Authority (NLA), who has contributed to the progress of Mampong Akropong, was also honoured.

In a citation, Sammi Awuku was praised for his desire, hard work and passion to work and develop Mampong Akropong and he was urged to sustain his works.

Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, Director General (NADMO), Seth Kwame Acheampong, Eastern Regional Minister and other proud sons of the state were also honoured.

Napo’s Entourage

Napo was accompanied to the function by his father, the Otumfuo Apagyahene, Nana Owusu Afriyie, who was accompanied by some top Asante chiefs.

Also present was Napo’s mother, Madam Elizabeth Akosua Nyarko, Kumasi Urban Roads Director, Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, Napo’s friends and family members.
