Napo support fire Victims

DR. MATTHEW Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, has made a cash donation of GH¢20,000 to some of the victims of the recent Asafo Central Market fires.

A number of traders at the Dr. Mensah enclave of the market were hit by calamity after their products were gutted by fire over the weekend.

The fire started around 10pm on Friday, consuming several valuable items.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service from all over the city were rallied to bring the fire under control.

Napo, who doubles as the Education Minister, personally visited the disaster area on Saturday morning to commiserate with the heart-broken traders.

The Manhyia South Lawmaker, who was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional NADMO Coordinator, Kwabena Nsenkyire, supported the traders with the cash donation.

“The GH¢20,000 is from my share of the MPs Common Fund and it is to help reduce the financial burden that you are facing due to the fire outbreak”, he remarked.

He also entreated traders, most of who were in tears, to take heart, assuring them that government and Ghanaians in general are with them in spirit.

He announced that in two weeks’ time a sod cutting ceremony would be performed to kick-start works on the second phase of the Kumasi Central Market project.

He urged them to offer the necessary support to the contractor so that the project would be completed on time.
