NDC Grills Aspirants Over Constituency Polls

ASPIRANTS gunning for positions in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region have been vetted.

Top party executives in the region conducted the vetting exercise, which was geared towards eliminating unqualified members from the race.

Checks by the paper indicated that, so far, aside very few hiccups, the exercise had been generally peaceful and incident-free.

An NDC guru, who demanded anonymity, however, expressed fears that there could be a few problems outside the region.

The top member said the vetting team had been fair since they started working and noted that party members have also comported themselves

He disclosed that barring any last minute hitches, the vetting would be completed in the coming days to pave way for the constituency polls soon.

It is recalled that the NDC had bragged that they would win massive votes in the Ashanti region, during the 2016 polls.

The then President, John Dramani Mahama, at a rally in Kumasi, predicted that the NDC would win one million votes in the region.

His vice, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, also said the NDC could win a staggering 1.5 million Ashanti votes.

But despite their growing confidence, the party managed a little over 400,000 votes in the region and also lost the general elections.
