NDC Race: Filing Fee Reduced To GH¢300,000

Reports available to Thepublisheronline.com indicates, the presidential aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will now pay an amount of GH¢300k as filing fee instead of the initial GH¢400,000k.

This comes on the back of several calls from the aspirants for the National Executive Council (NEC) to reduce the figure which they deemed outrageous.

It follows Wednesday’s crunch meeting by the Council of Elders and National Executive Council (NEC) after eight of the aspirants petitioned the council over the exorbitant fees.

Sources also say the sale of nomination forms which closed on Tuesday, December 4, has now been extended to Saturday, December 8. The nomination fee of GH¢20,000, however, stands.

The date for the primaries has also been moved from January 19, 2019, to January 26, 2019. The party’s executives are however yet to officially confirm the new development.

Four flagbearer-aspirants of the party have already picked nomination forms to contest for the presidential primaries slated for early 2019.

They are former president John Mahama, Prof Joshua Alabi, Mr Sylvester Mensah and Mr Stephen Atubiga.

Apart from Mr Mahama, all the other aspirants had expressed reservations about the GHS420,000 filing and nomination fees and threatened to boycott the race.
