Newly Launched G-Money To Offer Competition For Mobile Financial Operators

Head of Mobile Financial Services at GCB Bank, Carl Ashie, has said the newly launched mobile money wallet service, G-Money will offer a more competitive environment for mobile financial operators.

According to him, the launch of the product is part of innovative plans by the bank to meet the ready needs of its customers while adjusting to the fast-changing trends and evolving technology in the industry.

“The more options we have, the better for the customer. So, we can all compete on the pricing and on product options. We are one of the few banks that have ventured into this area. We are the first in Ghana. I think it is more around providing differentiated services for our customers and allowing them to transact at an affordable rate at their convenience” he said.

GCB Bank, on Thursday, January 30, 2020) launched its mobile money wallet service, G-Money, as part of the bank’s drive to take advantage of its country-wide branch network to deploy a digital payment service that fosters financial inclusion.

The mobile money wallet service will be accessed via various channels such as USSD, the bank’s mobile banking applications, ATMs, point of sale devices and very soon would be available for use on WhatsApp.

At the launch of the product in Accra, Managing Director of the Bank, Anselm Ray Sowah, said the service is the bank’s response to a changing trend in banking where digital payment has become crucial in reaching the unbanked population.
