Neymar Must Quit PSG- Guti

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti believes Neymar needs to play for Real Madrid to reach new heights in his career.

The Brazilian star, who joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer from Barcelona in a world-record €222 million transfer, has been linked with a move to Madrid in recent months.

Asked if Neymar would wear the Madrid colours one day, Guti, who coaches Real Madrid’s youth team, told Cadena Ser radio that he hopes he does.

“I think so,” Guti said. “In the end, he has been in an important club like Barcelona and now he is in another at PSG but you only really get to see him in the Champions League. All that is missing for him is Real Madrid. If he wants to progress and move further, in order to do that he needs to do it at Real Madrid.”

Guti said the good thing about Madrid is that no one, with the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, has a place in the side that is assured.

Coach Zinedine Zidane has not started all three members of the BBC — Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo — in the past four games in all competitions, opting instead to give youth products Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez more playing time.

“Zidane proved that there is no one untouchable — only Cristiano — and that is down to his own merit,” Guti said when asked if it was the end of the BBC. “But it will depend on [Bale and Benzema]. They are great players and if they are at the top level, they are very important players for Real Madrid.

“But what Zidane has made crystal clear is that he has a great squad and anyone who proves to him that he can play will play. From now on, everyone has to put on their work overalls and try to do the best to get minutes with Zidane.”
