Nigerian Filmmaker Kayode Adewumi Dead

Renowned Nigerian actor, producer, and director Kayode Adewumi has died in Toronto, Canada, after battling a long-term illness.

His family announced the news on Instagram, revealing that he passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025.

In their statement, the family described Kayode, also known as KP, as a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend. They shared that he fought his illness with strength and courage until his final breath. The family has asked for privacy as they prepare his funeral and promised to release further details soon.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi. KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning,” the statement read. “Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him.”

Kayode Adewumi was celebrated for his creative contributions to Nigeria’s theatre and television industry. He rose to prominence with the comedy series Flatmates in the early 2000s and was known for his work on Extended Family and other successful stage plays and sitcoms.

He began his career with Theatre 15 at the University of Lagos and later transitioned into television, producing shows like Twilight Zone and Flatmates. His film directing credits include 13 Letters (2019) and Crazy Grannies (2021).

News of his death has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry, with many actors and fans mourning the loss of a beloved figure whose work inspired many across generations.
