Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has been appointed head coach of Eleven Wonders and will lead his first training session on Saturday, August 9, 2025, ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
This role is another step in Lamptey’s coaching career, following his work with Elmina Sharks and other positions in Ghana football.
Eleven Wonders, now owned by Legon Cities FC boss Richard Atippoe, will compete in the Premier League this season despite Legon Cities’ relegation last year. Atippoe purchased the league slot from the Techiman-based club, kept its name, and relocated the team to Accra.
Lamptey’s first major challenge will be to build and prepare a strong squad capable of improving on last season’s struggles. Training starts today, with the former Aston Villa and Anderlecht midfielder eager to introduce his style of play and motivate his players before the new campaign kicks off.
Born on 10 December 1974, Lamptey is a former striker who played from 1990 to 2008 for clubs such as PSV Eindhoven, Coventry City, Venezia, Boca Juniors, União Leiria, Shandong Luneng, and Asante Kotoko.
Once hailed as a teenage superstar, his career later became a cautionary tale about the pressures placed on young players. He is also the proprietor of Glow-Lamp International School in Accra.
