Former Ghana Football Association Executive Member Ernest Thompson says he will not recommend a local coach for the vacant Black Stars job.
Thompson, who is also a leading shareholder of Accra Hearts of Oak, believes the national team needs an experienced foreign coach at this time. He said the next coach should be similar to Milovan Rajevac or Mariano Barreto, which in his view rules out Ghanaian coaches.
He explained that local coaches have often struggled to control the team and deal with outside pressure. He shared his thoughts after Ghana parted ways with Otto Addo.
“Looking at where we are now after parting ways with Otto Addo, we need to go for the best. For the next six months, I would not recommend appointing a Ghanaian coach.”
“From my experience, they have not been able to effectively control their camp. We need a coach in the mould of a Mariano Barreto or Milovan Rajevac,” Ernest Thompson said on Joy FM.
He also questioned whether Kwesi Appiah is the right person for the team now.
“I don’t think Kwesi Appiah has the firmness needed to control this team. At this stage, we are dealing with high stakes at the World Cup is not a playground like the Africa Cup of Nations.”
