Normalization Committee Hints at Organizing Novelty Leagues

The Normalisation Committee is deliberating on the possibility of replacing the suspended Ghana PL season with a novelty league.

Ghana football’s Normalisation Committee chairman Dr Kofi Amoah has hinted at the possibility of organising a novelty league to replace the 2017-18 Ghana Premier League season, which was halted by goverment in the wake of corruption scandals in June.

All football-related activities in the country have been on ice since then, with clubs and their players out of work.

“We are thinking about the possibility of organising a novelty competition [which will be divided into Northern and Southern sectors] and until we are through with it, I wouldn’t say much,” Dr. Amoah said, at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday.

“The committee will also meet all club owners in the country on Friday to see the way forward. We will as well tour the Regional FAs headquarters to ascertain the fundamental issues and the current situations on the ground,” he added.

As a result of the league’s suspension Ghana was unable to meet the October 15 deadline to submit the names of clubs to participate in the 2018-19 Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup.

Medeama were on top of the log, tied at 27 points with Ashanti Gold, after the first round of the campaign.

Amoah also announced that the Normalisation Committee had commenced the auditing of sponsorship contracts and accounts of Ghana FA.

“External auditors have been brought on board and they are in the process of auditing the accounts to know the state of things,” Amoah said.

“The GFA also has sponsorship contracts with several companies and we are in the process of reviewing them one after the other in order to take decisions,” he added.
