Nosa Rex Begs Ghanaians After Piracy Insults

Nollywood actor and director, Nosa Rex, has issued an apology to Ghanaians following his recent outburst on social media about movie piracy.

The filmmaker revealed that his latest movie, Prince of Peace, had been illegally broadcast by a television channel in Ghana without his consent. On August 12, 2025, he posted a video on his social media platforms, angrily addressing the matter.

In the video, he criticised the act of piracy and went as far as calling Ghanaians “stupid.” He also warned that if piracy is not tackled, the entertainment industry in Ghana will continue to deteriorate.

The video quickly went viral, sparking heated discussions on Ghanaian entertainment platforms and social media. Many fans and industry watchers criticised his choice of words, saying his attack on Ghanaians was unfair and generalised.

Realising the backlash, Nosa Rex returned on August 13, 2025, with another post to clarify his earlier comments. This time, he apologised and explained that his frustration was never directed at the entire Ghanaian population but at the television stations guilty of piracy.

“I see that so many people are misinterpreting and misunderstanding the video. The insult in that video was directed to the TV stations. I mean, why would I insult the entire Ghana? It doesn’t even make sense. I’m looking forward to come and see you people. You know what that means,” he said.

Nosa Rex stressed that piracy deeply frustrates him as a filmmaker. He described it as a disrespectful act that undermines the value of talent and hard work.

“I mean what I’m fighting for right now will not make sense right now until later. Imagine that a particular people are taking your creativity for free. It means that they don’t value creativity. They don’t value talent and even you guys in Ghana, this might even affect you guys later.

“If you don’t speak out right now. I know what I’m saying. Right now it seems like I’m the bad person maybe because of the way I said it. I just want to say shout out to my fans,” he added.

He went further to express love for his Ghanaian fans, stressing that disrespect was never his intention.

“I mean no disrespect. It’s not in my nature to disrespect anybody. For those of you who don’t know me, even the ones that pretend that you don’t know me, it’s okay, I just want to say I love all of you. I will not disrespect everybody. If you in Ghana don’t speak out for us how, is it gonna happen? You understand? But as they do us, they will still do you guys, the creative one in Ghana.

“So please speak out, fight for this. Let them stop it. It’s not in my nature to disrespect people. I’m sorry. I love you guys so much. No disrespect intended,” he said.

In a follow-up on X (formerly Twitter), Nosa Rex added: “My insult was to the tv stations in ghana showing our content for free. I mean no disrespect. This apology was done immediately what video was misunderstood. I wonder why the blogs are not letting the people know. Anyway, it’s all love from this side.”

The Nollywood star concluded by reaffirming his respect for Ghanaians while urging both Nigerian and Ghanaian creatives to join forces in speaking out against piracy.
