NPP Bans Rallies

PRESIDENT NANA Akufo-Addo has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will switch from the usual big political rallies to media campaign in the round up to the December 7 elections.

He was of the view that the Coronavirus pandemic would not make it possible for the ruling political party to organize big political rallies in the regional capitals and other communities in the country.

According to him, it is extremely dangerous for the ruling political party to resort to big political rallies to convey their message to the electorates as such action could put the lives of the people in danger.

So in place of the big political rallies, he announced that the NPP has decided to go for radio and other media campaigns to help garner more votes in the presidential and parliamentary elections.

President Nana Akufo-Addo also said television, newspapers and all other traditional media platforms as well as the electronic media channels like online portals would be used to campaign for votes.

Alongside the media campaign, the President, who is seeking reelection on the ticket of the NPP, also disclosed that direct campaign such as house-to-house campaign methods would be rolled out by the ruling political party soon.

“This election, the usual mammoth political rallies that we use to send our political message across, would be missing because of the deadly COVID-19”, the President said on Wontumi Radio in Kumasi.

He added that “we shall also go for a direct political campaign strategy whereby party members would be embarking on house-to-house campaign to explain our political message to the people”.

According to the President, COVID-19 has forced the NPP to modify their political campaign strategy. He said the virus is deadly and any campaign strategy that would lead to the gathering of people would not augur well.

The President said the country is not in normal times due to the Coronavirus therefore the party people should adjust and embrace the new campaign strategies to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19.
