NPP drops Bawumia Boy

Manaf Ibrahim’s hopes of leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections at Asawase Constituency has hit the snag.

This follows the Ashanti Regional NPP’s decision to let Alhaji Alidu Seidu, the MCE for Asokore Mampong, go unopposed.

Manaf Ibrahim is a Special Aide to Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, and a known NPP member in the Constituency.

He has over the years harnessed the ambition of becoming the Asawase Member of Parliament (MP) on the ticket of the NPP, but that dream has crashed, for now.

In a news releases on Monday, the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee of the party announced that Alidu Seidu would be the NPP candidate for Asawase Constituency.

The party did not give any reasons for not allowing a contest in the constituency, but the release, authored by Sam Pyne, Ashanti Regional NPP Secretary, only said the decision was aimed at helping the party win the seat.

It also said Salisu Bamba, MCE for Ejura Sekyeredumase and Jospeh Owusu, MCE for Sekyere Afram Plains, would be the NPP’s parliamentary candidates in their respective constituencies.

“This action is in line with the party’s strategy to annex these constituencies”, the statement explained, adding that the NPP is eager to snatch the three aforementioned seats from the NDC.

Meanwhile, reports suggested that supporters of Manaf Ibrahim are not happy with the decision to drop their preferred candidate from the race.

Some of them have even threatened to vote against the party in 2020 elections.

Manaf Ibrahim, is reported, to had painted Asawase Constituency with his campaign posters and had been campaigning real hard when the party unleashed the bombshell.

Asawase is one of the few seats of the largest opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) controls in the Ashanti region.

Out of the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region, the NDC currently holds only three: Asawase, Ejura Sekyeredumase and Sekyere Afram Plains.
