Press Release by NPP LOYAL LADIES
The loyal ladies of Ghana note with horror and despair a video on social media, of a police officer brutally assaulting a citizen of Ghana, a woman holding a baby. It is our strongest conviction as Loyal Ladies, that no amount of provocation or abuse can warrant such an abhorrent act from a Police Officer, and we, therefore, condemn in the strongest possible terms this violent and inhumane attack on the woman and baby.
It is also most unfortunate that this heinous crime was perpetrated by a police officer, who is expected to exhibit the highest level of Professionalism AT ALL TIMES and be the number one protector of citizens.
This action of physical abuse against the woman and baby by a uniformed officer of the Ghana Police Service is totally unacceptable, unprofessional and inhumane. Just as the police work against instant mob justice, and expect citizens to respect the rights of criminals even when caught red-handed, we also expect an even higher standard of application of rule of law from them as the frontline law enforcement agency.
That said, we know the Ghana Police Service is a decent institution, and we do commend the swift action taken by the Police Administration in response to this sad event.  We look forward to an outcome of justice and compensation for the victim and also severe sanctions for the perpetrator to serve as a deterrent.
We also note with shock the non-reaction of staff of the Midland Bank, who stood by and did nothing as the woman was violently attacked by the police officer. We call on the management of the bank to investigate and sanction the staff, who in complete negligence of their responsibility of care towards their customers looked on with tacit approval as the horrible event unfolded.
The Loyal Ladies solidly stands with this woman, and all others who have suffered any form of physical and verbal abuse by the very people we expect protect us as citizens.
As champions of democracy with a keen interest in protecting the rights of the vulnerable in society, we the Loyal Ladies do condemn this action by the police officer, not only because the alleged victim is a woman, but most importantly because the Police has sworn an important oath of service to protect lives and property of citizens at all times.
We as a law abiding citizens call on the government of Ghana to ensure that personnel of the Ghana Police Service adhere to this Service Promise AT ALL TIMES.
We look forward to swift action from all state institutions to ensure the safety of the woman and baby and also ensure that the perpetrator and all accomplices face the full rigors of the law.
