NPP Women’s Wing Expresses Gratitude To President

The Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for cutting the sod for work to commence on the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam and Irrigation Project.

Work would also begin on the Rock Estates Affordable Housing Project at Pusu-Namongo in the Talensi District.

The Women commended the President in a press statement signed by Madam Georgina Ayamba, the Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga.

“The projects are clear indication of President Nana Addo’s commitment to bridging the development gap between the Northern and Southern Ghana.”

“The prospect of this timely social intervention, when completed, will be a sustainable solution to rural-urban migration of women and children in the Region. We are delighted that the NPP government has come to ameliorate the plight of the people in the Region,” the statement said.

It said rural-urban migration was due to the lack of employable opportunities, which had dire consequences on productivity in the Region.

“The situation requires interventions like this (the project) to salvage the vulnerable people.”

The statement said young people from the Region, especially women and girls, who migrated to southern Ghana in search of greener pastures ended up with menial jobs and in some cases got sexually exploited.

“The irrigation facility under the project has the capacity to create thousands of both direct and indirect jobs for our women through the agricultural value chain. This certainly is a big relief to us”, it said, and called on the women to prepare for opportunities ahead to improve their living standards.

“The construction of 60 megawatts hydropower plant and 50 megawatts of solar power under the project will improve the conservation of our environment as many rural women who resort to firewood for domestic use will have access to electricity.”

“The women of the Upper East Region are convinced that the execution of this project by the Government is a dedication to humanity and an agenda for the holistic development of northern Ghana,” the statement added.

It appealed to women to vote massively to retain the Nana Addo-led government in 2020 for the prosperity of the Upper East Region and Ghana at large.
