NYA, FEDYAT Organizes Blood Donation Exercise

The National Youth Authority (NYA) and the Federation of Youth Association of Tarkwa (FEDYAT) in collaboration with the Tarkwa Municipal and Apinto government hospital have embarked on a blood donation exercise to replenish blood stock in the hospital.

The exercise, on the was under the theme “Donate blood, save life, to enhance effective service delivery in the municipality”.

Mr. Benjamin Teye Aborbi, the programmes officer of NYA, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal, told the Ghana News Agency that the gesture formed part of the International Volunteer’s Day celebration which falls on December 5 of every year.

He said the objective of this celebration was to incorporate the importance of youth volunteerism towards national building.

According to the programmes officer, as part of efforts to achieve this, the NYA seeks to inculcate in the youth the spirit and sense of volunteerism and nationalism.

Mr. Aborbi used the event to sensitize the public particularly the youth on the dangers associated with the abuse of Tramadol and other illicit drugs.

He called on the government, traditional authorities, the youth, civil society and the media to join in the fight against this menace.

Mr. Prince Nimo, a senior medical laboratory Technician said he was impressed with the number of people who turned out for the exercise.

He appealed to Ghanaians to visit health facilities and donate blood voluntarily to save lives.
