Obuasi Declares War Against HIV Infections

THE OBUASI Municipal Assembly has organized a mammoth float to sensitize the people about the dangers of the HIV/Aids disease.

Significantly, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Elijah Adansi Bonah, led the peaceful march, which lasted for some hours on Tuesday.

The move was among the interventions of the assembly to halt the rising cases of HIV/Aids infections at Obuasi and the nearby areas.

Statistics in 2017 showed that Obuasi topped the HIV prevalence rate among pregnant women across the country in 2017 with 5.2 infections.

Hon. Adansi Bonah said the scary statistics has compelled the assembly to take bold initiatives to help prevent the rising cases of HIV infections.

He said the float, which was massively attended, was organized to educate the people about the existence and dangers of HIV/Aids.

According to him, it has been established that lack of proper education about HIV was among the reasons the disease is spreading in Obuasi.

Hon. Adansi Bonah said the Assembly therefore decided to use this year’s ‘World Aids Day Celebration’ to organize a big float to sensitize the public.

He assured that the assembly would henceforth channel a lot of resources to educate the public about HIV/Aids so that the disease would not spread.

The MCE said the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Anglogold Ashanti (AGA) Health Foundation and the Obuasi Givernnent Hospital jointly organized the event.
