October GAW Sunday: Prof. Lade Wosornu Is The Author Of The Month

GAW Sunday is a monthly literary event organised every first Sunday in every month by the Ghana Association of Writers. The event serves as a platform for literary discussions, performances, books sales among others.

It also seeks to bring together lovers of literature for a general conversation on several topics of interest to the community and beyond. As part of the re-packaged phase of the event, an author is  selected for every month and his or her work (s)—prose, play, poetry, essay etc— is (are) put up for discussion for review.

The last edition of GAW Sunday hosted Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo and her play, DILEMMA OF A GHOST, was the book of focus. The October edition of the event scheduled to be on Sunday, 6th October, 2019 is set to host Prof. Lade Wosornu, one of the few Ghanaians who have broken the myth—that science and creative arts have no strong connection.

Prof. Wosornu (Emeritus) has traveled around the world to treat patients in medical theatres (as a surgeon) and continues to heal the ‘souls and spirits’ of men with beautiful & inspirational poems.

He is a prominent figure in the Ghanaian literary & academic landscape; a poet, essayist and a columnist on a range of health issues in Ghanaian papers. Prof. Wosornu has three collections of poetry works. These include Ete’ & Other Poems, Celestial Bride & Other Poems and Journey Without End & Other Poems…

Some of his poems mostly read and/or learnt in schools include Desert River (learnt in Basic Schools) Master Brewer and recently, Raider of A Treasure Trove (learnt in Senior High Schools). Prof. Lade Wosornu has several accolades to his credit and is now retired as a practicing surgeon but still writing.

This Sunday, the place of focus would be the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) House (Roman Ridge) from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The day would host a conversation with Prof. Lade Wosornu regarding his selected poems for the month—Master Brewer, Desert River and Raider of A Treasure Trove.

The occasion would also serve to create a platform for audience to interact with Prof. Wosornu while performers as Brownson Adatsi, Lamer James, Euodea Attram, Members of Achievers Ghana, Oswald Okaitei among others are those set to perform some of his poems at the event. GAW Sunday is a monthly literary event run by the Ghana Association of Writers. The slogan is: GAW Sunday…Let’s Do It! Entry is free!
