Osimpam Aboakyer Marathon Draws Large Crowd to Winneba

The Osimpam Aboakyer Marathon made a big splash on April 26th, 2025, as it successfully attracted over 300 athletes from across Ghana.

Held as part of the vibrant Aboakyer Festival celebrations, the marathon offered both seasoned runners and newcomers the chance to compete in a 21.5-kilometer race that started in Gomoa Yekuadze and ended in Winneba.

This year’s marathon wasn’t just about the race; it was an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate fitness and healthy living.

The event drew in members of the Effutu Traditional Council, whose royal presence added a special touch to the day.

The leadership of the Effutu Police Command, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Opoku, ensured that the marathon went off without a hitch, guaranteeing safety for all participants and spectators.

The race itself was fierce, with athletes pushing themselves to win the coveted cash prizes: GHC 7,000 for first place, GHC 6,000 for second, and GHC 5,000 for third. For those finishing between fourth and tenth, there was also a reward of GHC 700 each, making the competition even more exciting.

Mr. Eric Biney, the general manager of Osimpam FM, expressed his delight at the success of the event, saying, “We are thrilled with the turnout and the support from both the athletes and the community. This event is growing, and we can’t wait to make it an annual highlight for Ghana.”

The Osimpam Aboakyer Marathon has firmly established itself as a major event in the Ghanaian sporting calendar, and its future looks bright as it continues to inspire health, unity, and community pride.
