Otto Addo Prepares Black Stars for 2026 World Cup

Ghana head coach Otto Addo is preparing to name his squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

Reports suggest the announcement will be made on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Secretariat in Accra, where a press conference will be held.

The Black Stars will play Chad on Thursday, September 4, 2025, before facing Mali four days later on Monday, September 8, 2025.

The first match will take place at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Deby Itno in Chad, while the second will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Addo and his team are expected to open camp shortly after the weekend’s club matches. With no major injury concerns reported, the coach is likely to have a full-strength squad available for the qualifiers.

Captain Jordan Ayew, along with Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, and other regular players, are expected to be included. However, there are doubts about the availability of deputy captain Thomas Partey, who is facing a court case.

Ghana currently lead Group I with 15 points after six games, winning five and losing only once. The Black Stars know that their qualification hopes are in their own hands as they aim to book a place in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Comoros sit second in the group with 12 points, while Madagascar follow closely in third with 10. Mali, one of Ghana’s strongest rivals in the group, are fourth with nine points.

The Central African Republic are in fifth place, and Chad remain bottom of the table without a point after six matches.
