OTUMFUO RAPS NIA Over Ghana Card

THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has tasked officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to make more publicity about the Ghana Card project.
He urged the NIA boss, Prof. Ken Attafuah, to intensify public education about the new project, especially in the hinterlands.

According to him, by law, every Ghanaian is supposed to be registered by the NIA and issued with the Card so intensive public education is very crucial to achieve that.
Otumfuo gave the admonishment when NIA officials visited the Manhyia Palace on Monday to issue him and his sub-chiefs with their cards

The Asantehene said the Ghana Card project would produce financial, security and other benefits to the country, and urged everyone to embrace it.

He recounted with pain, how Ghana had tried and failed to introduce the card in the past, saying, everything should be done to make it successful this time.

Otumfuo specifically charged the government to readily make financial and logistical support available to the NIA officials so that they could perform.

He also urged people and groups that have reservations about it to sit and dialogue with the appropriate authorities for amicable solution.

Responding, Prof. Attafuah said he and his team were overly excited that the Asantehene had successfully gone through the registration processes, and promised of his outfit’s readiness to ensure that all eligible Ghanaians are registered and issued with the card. He, however stressed that non-Ghanaians would be prevented from securing what is the sole reserve of Ghanaians.
