Police in the Central East Region have arrested two individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of an 11-year-old girl, Blessing Innocent.
The suspects, identified as 40-year-old autobody sprayer Kingsley Ozor and his 19-year-old apprentice, Jeffery Otaigbe, were apprehended on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the arrests followed a missing person report filed by the victim’s mother on Monday, October 19. The distressed mother told the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Gomoa Buduburam District Police that her daughter had been missing since Saturday, October 17.
Preliminary investigations established that on the morning of her disappearance, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the deceased had visited the two suspects, who were their neighbors. It was the last time she was seen alive.
The police statement detailed a horrific sequence of events following the suspects’ arrest. During interrogation, both Ozor and Otaigbe admitted that the victim had been with them on that Saturday.
Further probes into the circumstances leading to her disappearance revealed that Otaigbe lured the young girl into an uncompleted building near an estate community. According to the police, the suspect sexually abused the minor until he realized she had become lifeless.
Following his confession, Otaigbe led investigators to the scene where he had hidden the body underneath some shrubs. Police have since recovered the remains of the child and conveyed them to the St. Gregory Catholic Hospital morgue. Arrangements are currently underway for an autopsy to be conducted at the Police Hospital.
Both suspects remain in police custody as further investigations continue.
In an effort to reassure the community, the Central East Regional Police Command commended the Gomoa Buduburam District Police for their diligence in swiftly apprehending the suspects.
“The Command further assures the public that crimes of such kind will be dealt with swiftly to ensure perpetrators face the full rigors of the law,” stated DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region.
