Police Killer Arrested at Hideout in Bolga

Police have arrested Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, also known as Baaluuse, in connection with the killing of General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah at the Karimenga police barrier on the Bolgatanga–Tamale Highway in December last year.

The suspect, 33, was apprehended at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2026, during a joint operation by officers from the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID) in Accra and their counterparts in the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Department (UER/PID). Iddrisu was traced to his hideout in Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga, after going into hiding following the attack.

According to Graphic Online, police reports indicate that Iddrisu and his accomplices, who are still at large, had been on the wanted list for allegedly attacking officers at the Karimenga police checkpoint on December 29, 2025. During that attack, General Constable Damoah was shot dead, while General Corporal Nyanku Charles and General Corporal Abu Moro sustained gunshot injuries.

“The suspect has been identified as a warrior for one of the feuding factions in the Bawku conflict. A brief search on three mobile phones taken from him suggest that suspect and others at large have participated actively in the protracted Bawku conflict and has also killed a lot of people.

“Further search on his phones also revealed that suspect belongs to a WhatsApp group called Trusted Friends with the image of Alhaji Seidu Abagri, a rival chief of the Bawku chieftaincy dispute, as their profile picture. A group mainly patronised by Moshies and Mamprusis,” the report said.

Investigators also revealed that the suspect appeared in a video displaying a number of AK-47 assault rifles in a sack and pistols at a location believed to be in Bawku. An audio message extracted from his devices reportedly captured him requesting more arms and ammunition to enable the Mamprusis to defeat the Kusaasis in the ongoing conflict.

“Information available also indicates that suspect and one Mark at large are behind the importation of weapons and ammunitions to Bawku.

“Information further indicates that on 29/12/2025 suspect and his accomplices at large planned and launched attack on the police performing their lawful duty at the Karimenga barrier. That suspect went into hiding until the police traced him to his hideout and apprehended him,” the report added.

Police say the December 29 attack followed an earlier assault by gunmen on a bus travelling on the highway. Officers had responded to a distress call after foiling the initial attack. The gunmen, who had fled into the bush, reportedly returned and targeted the Karimenga checkpoint, leading to the fatal shooting of General Constable Damoah and injuries to his colleagues.

He is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to apprehend his alleged accomplices.
