Police Probes Ablekuma North Election Violence

The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation into violent clashes that erupted during the just-ended electoral re-run of about 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

In a statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command, it confirmed receiving multiple reports of assault and disruption of the voting process.

According to the statement, a dedicated investigative team has been dispatched to gather evidence and interview witnesses

“The Police have reviewed and are analyzing several videos that captured the incidents at the polling stations to identify all persons involved. The command has progressed to obtain statements from complainants and witnesses to aid in the ongoing investigations

“The Police have also gathered vital leads and wish to assure the public that arrests will be affected soon. Meanwhile, the victims involved in the incidents have been issued with Police Medical Report Forms” part of the statement reads.

The statement further added that, the police officer, who was interdicted for assaulting a GhOne reporter, is facing criminal charges for assault.

It added, “In line with due process, the Police Officer captured in one of the videos, assaulting a journalist who was interdicted, has been held for criminal charges of assault.

“The Accra Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that all persons responsible for acts of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the elections will be held accountable under the law.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, was declared the winner.

POLICE ACTS ON ABLEKUMA NORTH ELECTION ASSAULTS

  1. The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to update the public in relation to violent incidents and assaults recorded during the Ablekuma North Parliamentary re-run held on Friday, 11 July 2025.
  2. The Police have reviewed and are analyzing several videos that captured the incidents at the polling stations to identify all persons involved
